\u201cLeggendaria direttrice di Vogue America\u201d,\u00a0<\/span>cos\u00ec definiscono Diana Vreeland<\/b> tutti coloro che non hanno la bench\u00e9 minima idea di chi stiano parlando e che hanno bisogno di riempirsi la bocca per dare l\u2019impressione di saperne qualcosa. Ma in realt\u00e0, cosa si nasconde dietro quel \u201cleggendaria\u201d usato convenzionalmente quasi fosse una definizione da cruciverba?<\/p>\n

La risposta \u00e8 pi\u00f9 complicata del previsto, ma gran parte dell\u2019enigma trova risoluzione nella lettura della sua divertente autobiografia\u00a0D.V.<\/a><\/strong> pubblicata nel 1984 e recentemente rieditata in Italia da Donzelli Editore nel 2012. <\/span><\/div>\n

Sin dall\u2019incipit, l\u2019ex-fashion editor di Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/strong> (1936-1962) ed ex-direttrice di Vogue America<\/strong> (1962-1971) sembra parlare al lettore davanti ad un t\u00e8 pomeridiano nel suo ufficio al Costume Institute del Metropolitan Museum di New York<\/strong>, come fosse un amico di sempre. E\u2019 schietta, divertente, dispensa suggerimenti ed aneddoti su qualsiasi cosa le venga in mente e se non fosse per la punteggiatura, potrebbero essere benissimo le riflessioni di un personaggio di James Joyce.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Le pagine del libro, cos\u00ec come le porte del suo ufficio, sono uno Stargate su epoche che non esistono pi\u00f9, ma che tutti vorrebbero vivere. Proprio come la Zia Mame di Patrick Dennis, Diana \u00e8 il passepartout per il bel mondo che nonostante i cambiamenti socio-culturali intercorsi tra l\u2019inizio del XX secolo e gli anni 70, si \u00e8 sempre caratterizzato di intrighi, segreti, obblighi dettati da protocolli ed etichette, ma anche di quel senso di libert\u00e0 che emerge in ogni azione la veda protagonista, rendendola un\u2019imbattibile eroina (di stile) ai nostri occhi. Mi raccomando per\u00f2 a non chiamarle Memorie, la stessa autrice infatti spiega di non essere una vecchietta nostalgica, ma una persona che guarda sempre avanti.<\/span><\/div>\n

Azzardando un confronto con l\u2019eccitante percorso di questa donna tra cerimonie di incoronazione, elefanti, diamanti, maharaj\u00e0, abiti Schiaparelli, reali decaduti, smalti rosso intenso, trucchi pesanti ed ultracoprenti ispirati agli eccessi delle maiko, lezioni di balletto con Michel Fokine, sfilate di Balenciaga accanto ad Audrey Hepburn, prime cinematografiche in compagnia di Josephine Baker ed il suo ghepardo, balli alla Casa Bianca ospite di Jacqueline Kennedy, serate allo Studio 54 in compagnia di Andy Warhol e chiacchierate con Coco Chanel tenendo le braccia alzate durante le prove degli abiti, ci sembrer\u00e0 a stento di vivere la nostra vita, tentando di far fronte quotidianamente ai ritmi ed ai problemi della societ\u00e0 odierna.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Non ci resta quindi che tirare un sospiro di sollievo nello scoprire a fine libro che Diana non solo \u00e8 dotata di una grande fantasia (grazie alla quale sono nati i pi\u00f9 begli editoriali di moda dagli anni 30 ai 70), ma che molti episodi e aneddoti sono stati \u201cabbelliti\u201d secondo il suo gusto.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Forse s\u00ec, ma avete mai sentito parlare di un creativo ottuso che non sa andare oltre i propri limiti ? Non penso proprio. Diana Vreeland era estrosa, intuitiva, istintiva, carismatica, sicura, talvolta incosciente, ma solo in nome della curiosit\u00e0 e se queste caratteristiche contribuiscono a definire una persona pazza, allora vorrei essere considerato pazzo come lei.<\/span><\/div>\n
