Finally, after a long wait, the young Sicilian fashion designer Vincent Billeci has presented the VINCENT Spring Summer 2013 collection. Born in 1988, Vincent has graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo and now has made his fashion debut with a short film by Mirko Cavallotto. Vincent describes his collection as “Minimal Baroque“. An oxymoron that explains an easy-chic way of dressing up. Designed for dynamic women, who love refined, but understated elegance. A researching work that led him to reformulate the Sicilian baroque into something more contemporary. His minimalist style reject all those formal baroquisms that made the fortune of his fellow countrymen colleagues. His style-language is simple, but full of cultural references. Using only four colors he conveys a renewed tradition made of high waisted basque opening into large pleats, or small tops and boleros reminiscent of the robes worn by the Sicilian Madonnas. Gabardine cotton and chiffon are declined into asymmetric skirts ranging the shades of white, ice and turquoise. While the total black outfits are made of different matches of long skirts and tops. Finally, the Silver Cow Bag, an accessory destined to become the cult piece of the collection. The silver cow-shaped votive offering reminds the donations of the shepherds to thank Our Lady and gives an irreverent and pop twist to the clutch, made of cotton in three color variations. Finally even Vincent with his minimalist and proudly Made in Sicily line, has become a brand new voice in the dialogue between the fashion designers that aim to reinterpret the tradition with a contemporary twist.
