Valentine’s day is the feast of love and even if seems impossible to choose a lovely present among the thousands of consumerist proposals, it’s not that difficult being seducted by a collectible gift as the Byredo 1996 Inez and Vinoodh candle, an homage to the love between the two fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.
Like it or not, Valentine’s Day is the most consumerist occasion of the year to celebrate love, but in addition to the thousands of fashion proposals studded with hearts, there are also more particular products on the market that tell a true love story.

Maybe this gift seems nothing more than a scented candle, but actually what struck me is the love story behind its fragrance.
The ‘1996’ fragrance was the result of a private collaboration between Ben Gorham, creator of the Swedish perfume house Byredo, and the famous fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, who wanted to create a special Christmas gift for their beloved friends and clients. That private scent was so successful that after many requests it was finally put on the market in 2013, sealing the enduring love between the two artists.
Inspiration
For ‘1996’ Ben Gorham took inspiration from the photography ‘Kirsten 1996‘ by Inez and Vinoodh, trying to interpret with a synesthetic operation, not only the picture, but also the personality and passion of its creators, as well as the beauty and the warmth of their relationship and of their home.

‘1996’ is a full immersion in nature which opens with the deep notes of juniper berries, then gives way to the creamy and soft orris and the slightly flirtatious violets. Then comes the warm heart of the fragrance with the dark amber and the heady aroma of cognac, until the journey ends with the sensual notes of patchouli.

Seguo da qualche stagione il lavoro di Inez e Vinoodh e mi lascia sempre col fiato sospeso. Non saprei spiegare: le loro foto raccontano storie che non sono ancora concluse e ti portano a immaginare epiloghi e a chiederti “come andrà a finire!?”. A mio avviso un ingrediente fondamentale per rendere immortale il proprio lavoro.
Venendo, alla candela, finalmente qualcosa di per nulla scontato e veramente chic. Il packaging è minimalista e chic come piace a me…San Valentino potrebbe rivelarsi una buona scusa per accaparrarsi un bellissimo complemento d’arredo.
La fragranza a quanto leggo deve essere molto intensa e sensuale. Sarei curiosissima di provarla!

Trovo che diano il loro meglio nei ritratti introspettivi. Ne ho trovato uno di Clint Eastwood completamente immerso in una nuvola di fumo e in cui si intravedono solo gli occhi. E’ pura arte.
Inoltre, nonostante la patina glossy di alcune foto, mi piace molto il loro stile sofisticato apparentemente senza sforzo.
Una goduria per gli occhi e uno stimolo continuo per la mente, grazie alle piccole provocazioni che realizzano nei loro shooting.

Bhè si, è una festa consumistica, ma alla fine mi piace San Valentino perché c’è tutto questo romanticismo concentrato in un giorno solo!! Certo che questa candela sarebbe davvero un regalo sublime..lascerò aperto il pc con questo post ben in vista..non si sa mai che a qualcuno venga in mente che mi piace!

Ho scoperto da vicino Byredo all’Olfattorio di Firenze durante l’ultimo Pitti Fragranze e posso confermare che è davvero un must.
Il profumo della candela è intenso e data la mia predilezione per le essenze legnose e le storie vere, diciamo che è stato un amore a prima vista. 😉

Mi raccomando passa al museo, è una piccola stanza con le vetrine che si illuminano a tempo, ma ti giuro che vale davvero la visita. Ci sono dei pezzi meravigliosi che non hanno niente da invidiare ai packaging odierni!!!

La profumazione della candela mi attira tantissimo, sebbene non sia una fan delle candele in generale. Poi inez and vinoodh sono in assoluto i miei due fotografi preferiti, le loro foto lasciano sempre il segno!
